Invasive Species

All about Invasive Species

In order for a species to be classified as invasive it must check off these categories:

  • Non-Native

  • Rapid Spread

  • Negative Impact on Ecosystem and Native Species

When these species are introduced to a new environment, the spread rapidly and outcompete native flora, disrupting ecosystems. This spread can negatively impact agriculture; water resources; and wildlife, making it important to control these species.

Every day, we can all take mindful actions to help prevent the spread of invasive species. For example, when planting a garden, always check whether the plants you choose are invasive. Additionally, you can contribute by simply removing any invasive species around your home or whenever you're out on a trail. These small efforts can make a big difference in protecting our ecosystems.
